Stephanie {Falling Into First...and Second}

Hi everybody! I'm Stephanie and I'm the author of Falling Into First.  I'm so excited to be blogging here with you all today!!
A couple of you may be wondering what me and my first grade blog are doing hanging around these parts. So allow me to explain! I began my teaching career as a 1st grade teacher 5 years ago. (Wow..five years! When did that even happen!?) I taught just 1st for three years before becoming a 1st and 2nd COMBO CLASS teacher last year. It was my first experience teaching in a combo classroom and also my first time teaching second grade. While it was definitely a new challenge, I'd always really wanted to teach 2nd grade! Last year I was still feeling everything out, learning the 2nd grade standards and curriculum while getting to know my second graders. This year, I am excited to connect with other 2nd grade teachers and share more of what I am doing in my classroom at both grade levels! I do most of my teaching in small groups/workshop style. It's pretty much a necessity with combo class teaching and I look forwards to sharing more about what that looks like with you all this year.

Here is a little bit more about me from behind the scenes...

I'm originally from New York where I lived my whole life before moving to Colorado.I moved to Colorado after falling in love with the state that my husband was born in over the course of multiple visits when we were still just dating. Right now it's just the two of us living with our three fur babies- two dogs and a rabbit! We are total beach bums living in a land locked state, but we're quick to jump on a plane that will take us to our next ocean side destination. I'm a total night owl who has fully accepted the fact that I will never be a morning person. I'm pretty out-going and social. I'm not a runner, but I enjoy work out classes like kickboxing and body pump. I am fluent-ish in Spanish.

 Some of my f.a.v.o.r.i.t.e. things include....

Bright colors {Teal and Pink},Target, Inspirational Quotes, Chevron, Dogs, Ice Coffee, Planners, Kickboxing, Basketball, Flip Flops, Books & Magazines, and Home Decorating.

Ok, enough about me. Let's talk FREEBIE! The pack I've got for you today is the perfect companion to this book right here, Enemy Pie. Enemy Pie by Derek Munson is one of my favorite books to read at the beginning of the year!

 The companion pack includes activities to do Before, During, and After reading this story. I hope you all can use them with your class sometime during those first few weeks of school!

Thanks so much for hanging out with me today! I hope you'll also hop on over to my blog Falling Into First and follow along to catch all the day to day happenings in my classroom this year!! :)

  1. Stephanie - girl, we are SOOO much alike! Beach bum - check! Not a morning person - check! Spanish-speaker - check (except mine has gone way downhill lately!) Always wanted to teach 2nd grade - check! The only difference is that I got my husband to move AWAY from Colorado when we were dating! :) So excited to learn a little more about you today and thanks for the unit! That book has been sitting in my Amazon cart for over a year. I think I'll go buy it now :)

  5. Thanks for sharing! I can see why you fell in love with Colorado. It's such a beautiful state. Like you, I love the beach and don't know if I could live where I was "land locked". I'm a Cali. girl born and raised. Although if I had to choose a state which wasn't by the coast, Colorado would be in my top 2 for sure! Love Enemy Pie, thanks for the resource!

  6. Hi Stephanie! Thanks for sharing this great resource. I haven't read Enemy Pie before, but I have wanted to for awhile! I'm a beach bum in Charleston, SC so I totally understand that. I LOVE to hike so my family has been out west a few times. Totally jealous of you there!

    Thanks again!

  10. Thank you so much! This will be perfect for back to school in the fall...I also teach a split grade-2/3 and have since I started teaching primary 6 years ago (egad). It's actually quite common in our school board for grades to be split/combo from K-8. Unfortunate but true.
    Have fun enjoying your summer!
