Being Thankful

Hi everyone!  It's Nicole from Teaching With Style!

Every year during November, I take the time to teach my kids what being thankful really means.

I love to use this book, The Most Thankful Thing.

The book is about a little girl who asks her mom what she is most thankful for.  they look through the mom's old scrapbook at important pictures of events throughout her life.  In the end of the book is a picture of the little girl as a baby and the mom reveals that she is her most thankful thing.  It is such a sweet story and I cry every year when I read it!

To help you talk about being thankful with your students, I have created a freebie graphic organizer and writing paper.  Students will brainstorm things they are thankful for, then they will write about what is their most thankful thing.  You can do the activity after reading this book, or any other book about Thanksgiving.  Click on any of the pictures to download it from Teachers Pay Teachers!

I also use my Thanksgiving Feast unit around Thanksgiving time.  The kids make a more elaborate writing and art project about their most thankful thing.  Then, they all bring in ingredients to make soup in the classroom crockpot.  We make turkey hats and fun placemats.  We talk about being thankful for our food, but also for each other.  I love doing this project with my class!

How do you teach thankfulness around this time of year?
